No Idea - Class War 12" - 1985 - New Zealand

No Idea were a Punk/Oi band from Christchurch from the early to mid 80's who released this 12" and a Tape called "Wotsoever". I'm not a history buff but I love their two releases and this 12" has the awesome "Rugger Bugger". I do prefer the more raw sound they had on the cassette but fuck me this is classic New Zealand Punk fucking Rock. They were the forerunners of the second wave on NZ punk along with the likes of Flesh D-Vice, Armatrak, Five Year Mission and Compos Mentis.

No Idea formed in April '83 in Palmerston North & then moved to CHCH Feb'84. Their tape was released on 6th August 1984. & 12" 21st Oct 1985. (thanks Simon for the information)

01 - Class War
02 - Get It Together
03 - Wotever
04 - Object
05 - Rugger Bugger
06 - Like You
07 - Kick Down That Wall

Jayrem Records.

have had this on vinyl for centuries and its brilliant. Yeah Rugger Bugger is a classic. Remember seein a video for wotever on tele when it came out, and always liked the fact that they never allowed their pictures to be taken especially at gigs, shows total lack of ego on their part! Good posting man.

I'd always assumed they'd formed in the smalltown of Levin.

No Idea was James Ingle (vocals/bass), Nigel Cairns (Guitar), Red Ingle(drums).
They formed in Levin (PN is the closest city to Levin), before moving to Christchurch and finally Australia (Melbourne I think), before calling it quits around 87.
James went on to play in Filthy Business and Freehead throughout the 90s. Nigel went on to play in Paddy Hooligan (Irish band).

James Ingle also fronted Levin punk/alt band The Insipid at Sweetwaters in the early 80's, usually fronted by Richard Hislop on bass with Craig Parsons on drums and Mike on guitar. The youngest Ingle brother "Bollocks" played guitar in Levin punk band Stench of the Wounded with Brent Hislop on vocals and John Huria on drums.

I met these guys in the late 80's
They were living in Melbourne At the time and were mates of this Kiwi guy Sean that I knew. James, vocalist and the left handed bass player who played a conventional strug right hand bass and just threw it over the other way. He was a top bloke, very funny who hated a beer.
Nigel the guitarist I think, also a top bloke. Can't remember the drummer, though.
I saw these guys half a dozen times, and thought they were awesome. What a shame, tWas the best Kiwi punk I'd ever heard.

I was flatting with James & Nigel when they wrote & rehearsed this EP
My bedroom was the rehearsal room cos it was biggest. I think it was the loudest flat I ever lived in.

N0 idea formed in Levin; james mike;red; and then nasty ni[nigel];left in a kombi van to christchurch where the mayhem began. they eventually ended up in melbourne where the shows were few but well recieved. Internal frustration/alcohol lead to the break up.
