The Epileptics - 1970's ep - 1981

The first Epileptics ep recorded in 1979 and originally released on Stortbeat Records in 1979 under the name The Licks. It was latter released again on their own Spiderleg label and was the first release on this classic label who went on to release records from the likes of the Subhumans, The System, Kronstadt Uprising, Antisect and the Amebix. Most of the aforementioned bands can be found on this blog. This is a great ep with the title track definitely the stand out track.

01 - 1970's (Were Made In Hong Kong)
02 - System Rejects
03 - Hitler's Still A Nazi/War Crimes

Spiderleg Records.

This is the latest re-recorded version. The old EP's had a totally different recording but with the same songs.

This one also have Penny Rimbaud as stand in drummer.

The Epileptics were my local band and I bought their first Stortbeat single after seeing them at the Triad in '79, where they also played with Crass and Poison Girls. Henk is indeed right, this is the second recorded version of the single, originally produced in 1979 by Stortbeat who renamed the group (then called Epi.X after nasty letters from the Royal Epileptic Society) as the Licks. Stortbeat went back on their promise to allow the Epileptics to collaborate with Crass, so the Epileptics re-recorded the single with Pen of Crass on drums. The original Licks 45 is now unfindable in vinyl form ... but I digitized my copy, bundled it with the A side of fellow Stortbeat band the Sods and have kept it live on the web ever since. Here it is:

And more good news: fellow Stortford rocker Adrian has kindly provided the FULL gig from which the Epileptics drew their Last Bus To Debden EP (one of the gigs I was at), so here that is in lossless or mp3 @ 192 - thank the man here:

Cheers, Dave Sez.
